Two facilities can use the same energy and get very different bills. Demand is often why.
Energy vs. demand
A commercial bill usually charges for two things. Energy is how much power you used over the month (kWh). Demand is your highest rate of draw at any point in the month (kW). The utility multiplies that peak by a demand rate to set that part of the bill (Cannabis Business Times).
Why grows feel it
Lights, cooling and dehumidification all draw heavily. Industry analysts have reported demand charges making up as much as 60 percent of a grow facility’s bill (E Source).
What it means for you
Your bill can rise even when your usage doesn’t — and that’s worth a second look.
